New NHS Vaccine – the National RSV vaccination programme

We are now offering the new Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccine for people who are aged 75 to 79 years old on 1 September 2024; those who turn 75 after this date will become eligible on their birthday.

We will be texting a link to eligible patients so they can book an appointment directly but if you are unable to use this link, please telephone the surgery. Pregnant women over 28 weeks will also receive the vaccine from their midwives to help protect their newborn babies.

Unfortunately the RSV vaccine cannot be given on the same day as another vaccine, such as the Flu vaccination, so you will need to book appointments on different days to receive both.

RSV is a major cause of respiratory illness, particularly dangerous for infants and the elderly. The virus can lead to bronchiolitis and pneumonia, requiring hospitalisation and intensive care in severe cases. The new vaccination programme is a proactive measure to mitigate these risks and enhance public health.
